Introduction:

Francis was an artist working towards the middle of the 19th century whose cut work, while not of an exceptionally high standard, does appear to have been executed with more care and attention than work typical of the period. As can be expected, there is some confusion between the numerous contemporary artists with the common surname ‘Francis’. However, four examples of similar style and quality have been positively attributed to this ‘Francis’. They are two bust length and two full length profiles, lavishly embellished in yellow gold with sensitive composition featuring coloured furniture. The two full length pieces are signed and framed in maple.
