Morton, J. (McKechnie Section 2)

Recorded by Jackson (Dictionary), who gives the date 1827 and mentions one signed silhouette. It is possible that Morton was in fact Thomas Norton (q.v.). Foskett records no artist named Morton with the initial J. She lists James Norton, working c. 1787 in Dublin, but this seems too early for Norton to be identified with the profilist. Graves lists J. Morton (who exhibited sixteen landscapes at the Royal Academy from London 1791-1807) and J. Morton the younger (who exhibited nine pieces, described as `churches', at the Royal Academy 1808-17).
