Bruce, George. (fl. c. 1792 – 1847)

In an announcement quoted in Section Four Bruce offers profiles 'reduced on ivory so small as to set in rings, pins, bracelets, lockets, &c.' I have seen no example, but a profile painted on ivory by Bruce and set in a jewellery piece, should it come to light, would probably, if unsigned, be recognizable from the artist's treatment of the shirt-frill (see the illustrations of details at the end of Section Four). Also, Bruce sometimes finished his portraits with two fine lines drawn at the bust-line termination.
