Introduction:
This artist, about who extremely little is known and none of whose work can be located, is included because Jackson’s Dictionary records him as the artist of both cut and painted profiles in the late 18th century. It has been suggested that this artist and ‘V Ellis’, recorded by Woodiwiss, are in fact the same. However, this has so far been unable to prove.
