Introduction:

Princess Elizabeth, the seventh child and fourth daughter of George III and Queen Charlotte, cut silhouettes as a hobby. A small album of her work is now held in the Royal Collection.

Princess Elizabeth’s earliest piece appears to be a profile of her father, cut when she was around ten. She produced both genre pieces and individual silhouettes, some of which depict family life, others her younger brothers and sisters. She assembled her work in a small album, gifted to Lady Banks, a Lady in Waiting at Court. This later passed into the Royal Collection. Princess Elizabeth's genre pieces are rather accomplished, and her individual profiles show good detail and character.
