Rider, Thomas (McKechnie Section 5)

See Section Three for main entry

On Trade Label No. 1 Rider offers ‘Large Shades reduced within the Compass to be worn in a Ring, Pin, Locket or Bracelet, on Enamel, ivory or Paper’. On Trade Label No. 3 he offers to reduce profiles ‘Particularly in his new manner for Rings on Crystals which have the effect of a Topas’; such pieces would have been painted on glass in black with a gold background. No silhouettes by Rider painted on ivory are, however, known to me. If any come to light, they might only be identifiable if signed, since Rider’s style of painting on glass was not uniform.
