We are winding down now for the end of year break, our best wishes to everyone for the Season and our thanks to you all for your participation and encouragement with the Profiles project - The Profiles of the Past team.

We are being generously aided by a private collector of historic printed silhouettes and in a few weeks time expect to publish a small collection of these works in the Gallery section of the website. Watch out for an announcement in this blog when the images go live.

Friday 24 October 1000-1400hrs, join us for Silhouette Shadow Theatre at The Regency Town House. The event provides children with a hands on opportunity to make cut-out silhouettes and develop storytelling skills with these.
Pop Gun Productions first event at the Town House was very well received and we heartilly recommend this event to you. Drop in anytime during the opening hours and expect to spent about 30-45 minutes playing with the set. This activity is free and open to children and adults.

On Sunday 19 October, 1100-1500hrs, and Friday 24 October 1000-1400hrs, we have Silhouette Shadow Theatre at The Regency Town House, providing children with a hands on opportunity to make cut-out silhouettes and develop storytelling skills with these.

Come along and discover the Giant Pantograph, custom built by artist Nick Sayers, and meet Puppeteer Grethe Mangala Jensen and Elizabeth Mienert* of 'Pop Gun Productions'. They will assist you to use their multi-sensory theatre and the silhouettes you make to develop your own novel stories.

It's the final weekend of the Profiles exhibition. One of the most popular aspects of the show over the last couple of months has been the silhouette machines, which offer visitors the chance to have a portrait made and to try their hand at producing a profile. We have extra helpers over the weekend, to assist visitors who want to try using the machines so come on down and join in the fun!

The Profiles of the Past exhibition at The Regency Town House closes soon but you can still take in the display during Heritage Open Days (HODs), 11 - 14 September 2014. We expect to be very busy during HODs, especially on the Saturday and Sunday, the final two days of the exhibition, so we've arranged for additional volunteers to be present to assist visitors with using the silhouette machines. We hope you can make it along.

Profiles of the Past - 250 years of British Portrait Silhouette History

As we finalise the silhouette exhisition details, we are arranging a series of great supplemental talks and workshops. Among these will be a presentation by Professor Lou Taylor from the University of Brighton, a talk by Jerry Rendell about Captain H. L. Oakley, the great 20th C war silhouettist, an 'Antiques Road-show' type event, for those with silhouettes in their care, sessions on the history and use of silhouette machines, and cutting demonstrations by the contemporary silhouette artist, Charles Burns. We are busy planning our summer silhouette exhibition. e-j Scott, from the University of Brighton, has very generously volunteered to assist with the dressing of the mannequins exhibiting some of Marion May's costume collection. e-j is a highly gifted student who has studied at Brighton as both an under-grad and post-grad. Soon he will complete his Masters and begin a PhD. I wonder in the UK will be lucky enough to retain his talents, or whether he will move abroad for his final years studying?
