Sanderin (McKechnie Section 7)

Known from a silhouette, sold in 1948 by Blairman of London from the collection of Sir Henry Sutcliffe Smith; Mr Graham Thomas has informed me that it was signed 'Sanderin, 1797'. It was described in the catalogue of the sale as 'A portrait of a lady, painted in colours on paper, with lace cap, within a coloured border of flowers and leaves by Sanderin in 1797. Wellesley Collection'. Sanderin is not, however, listed by Mills. Since both the Wellesley and Sutcliffe Smith collections consisted of silhouettes, presumably the sitter's face, on the example in question, was in black.
