Design of our Silhouette machine

This page provided information about how you can make a copy of our silhouette machine.

The device is essentially a frame, composed of 50mm x 25mm prepared soft-wood, that slides within a similar, but slightly larger, frame, via a tounge and grove mechanism. The inner frame is partly glazed (glazing shown in blue). We have used clear perspex for the glazing and retained the sheet with quadrant mouldings, on either side. Over the perspex, on the side of the device to which the pantograph is attached, we have adhered baking paper (this shown in orange), to produce an opaque screen. You could used a sand-blast finished perspex sheet instead. Above the perspex is a wide timber board, (this shown in green), to which, at the top, you can fix the pantograph, and below, you can pin a piece of paper, upon which the reduced image will be formed.
