Introduction:
Robert Hancock was probably the son of the well-known engraver Robert Hancock (1730-1817). It is likely that Hancock Junior only painted a few silhouettes. One example of his artistic work, taken between 1816 and 1820, bears a trade label which describes the artist as a ‘Drawing Master’, but does not mention silhouette work.
